Aloha Friday #46

From Kailani of An Island Life:

"In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer."

I'm going to follow her lead, kick back, relax and see what you all have to say on this lovely Friday!

**************************************************************
Today's question is:

If you could dress up for Halloween this year, what would you be?

I'd be a classic 50's pin up girl again because I just love that costume so darn much!! xD

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

Jake² Thursday(10/27)

I have not 1, but 2 Jakes in my life-Jake the Dog and Jake the Boyfriend (and yes, that IS how they are identified in real life). They bring me so much joy in my life daily, that I thought to myself one day, "Why not share them with everyone?!"

Hence, Jake² Thursday came to be :)

Each week, I'll share a new picture of both of my Jakes doing what they do best: bringing me joy!

Health Update Thursday(10/27)

Picking up from last week, there haven't been any changes to report, big or small, which is a little disheartening.

I've calculated that I've been in bed for around 2 weeks now (4 to 5 days before Tom came which was about the 16th of October). Some days when I wake up in the morning, I can move and crawl easily enough, but some days, my pain level is quite high and it's a challenge to even get to the bathroom which is only 5 to 10 feet away from my room.

I've realized that I haven't been doing everything I could be to try to get better, so I'm starting on a diet soon (to be determined), my mom has brought up Johnny the walker so I can keep moving around, and I've taken up to doing the foot bath again a few times a day-Hopefully--HOPEFULLY--these things will work together to get me up and moving again!

I also realized just how deconditioned I really am, so I'm considering on my good days that I'm not in pain, to start doing a little light floor exercising and work my way up. Oh, how I do miss my exercising!

I'm actually quite surprised at how well this post is going because I'm running on 2 hours of sleep since....Tuesday? Yeah, Tuesday I think. My body unwillingly pulled an all-nighter Wednesday night, so needless to say, I'm crashing after this is posted!

I must say, you get A LOT done when you don't sleep.

We are also trying to get me into the doctor sooner then November 11th, which is our next scheduled appointment. They're always booked, so we'll see how that turns out.

I will definitely keep you all updated on everything! Right now however, I'm going to bed O.O

PMD Personal Microderm *Review*

Girly-girl, I am not. Go ahead and ask my whole family-they'll tell you that I have no fashion sense, my definition of doing my hair is running a brush through it (sometimes), I still have nail polish left over on my toes from July, and once in a blue moon will I wear makeup.

Of course when it comes to beauty regiments, I'm pretty much done for:

-"I'm supposed to tweeze WHERE!?"
-"Is that gunk in the purple bottle is supposed to go in my hair before or after it's dry?"
-"Am I supposed to cleanse or exfoliate first and when the heck does moisturizing come in?!"

One thing I DO know is that I have some major issues with dead skin-every time I get out of the shower and towel off, it looks like I'm molting!

(I know, that was probably TMI, but it's true)

Having this issue, I have looked into how to help it and microdermabrasion was the first thing that came up-Of course, paying upwards of $50, $60, to $70 for a single treatment at a spa is definitely not in this poor college student's budget, so all that was left was to just read about it.

That is until I was contacted to do a review on the patented PMD Personal Microderm device courtesy of personalmicroderm.com!

Here's a little about the company from their About US page:

"PMD Personal Microderm was organized and established in order to introduce the patented PMD device to the world. It is their mission and objective to bring new and innovative products to the market that are synergistic with and complimentary to anti aging. PMD will find the best and most effective products that have the potential to make us look and feel younger and more vibrant."

Now that you know about the company, some of you might still think, 'what the heck is microdermabrasion anyway?'

Microdermabrasion is the process of resurfacing the top layer of the skin to a precise depth by the combination exfoliation/vacuum process. By removing these dead skin cells and stimulating blood flow, the deeper dermal level is stimulated to produce collagen and fibroblasts, giving the skin a more supple elastic appearance. Those living cells deep within the skin tissue are stimulated to produce and compensate for the loss of part of the protective layer of the skin. The result is fresher, healthier, rejuvenated skin with enhanced surface quality.

With the help of the PMD Personal Mircoderm tool, you can not only see reduction in dead skin, but also it:

-Promotes collagen production.
- Eliminates fine lines and wrinkles.
- Reduces acne marks and scarring.
- Fades hyperpigmentation, including age spots and sun damage.
- Smooths dullness and uneven skin texture.

My Review:

I wasn't quite sure what to expect when I opened the box and took out the at home microdermabrasion system, mainly because this is my first run in with an at home beauty treatment system like this.

Never had a beauty treatment at a spa, never experimented them at home-I know, I know, what kind of self-respecting girl AM I?!

But I digress...

 The kit includes:

-1 personal microderm
-6 exfoliating discs (2 green, 4 blue)
-1 electric cord
-2 cups (1 body, 1 facial)
-1 reusable filter
-Instructions (CD & information sheet)

The first thing that catches your attention when you open the box is a neatly packaged CD highlighting what the PMD does, and how to use it {thank GOODNESS for that}. After watching the CD and prepping myself, I was ready to try this bad boy out!

The CD was well informative and provided easy step-by-step instructions on what to do before, during, and after the treatment.

 {My Before}

Unfortunately, I was not told beforehand that we needed a cleanser, toner, and revitalizing moisturizer
throughout the treatment(s), so I had to make due with what I could find in the closet.

All in all, taking into account that this was brand new to me, I think I did well for my first treatment! I learned quickly that my skin is extremely sensitive (flared red the moment I put the PMD to it) and the first treatment hurts a bit (again, that may just be my sensitive skin or inexperience at work). Going through the treatment, however, it's so interesting to feel all the sensations, hear the noises, and see what unfolds step by step!

The best part about it this device is I didn't realize that it wasn't restricted to just your face; you can use it all over your body if you choose!

{My During}

After all is said and done, my skin, still a little raw from the treatment, feels much tighter and lighter if that makes any sense-It's a really refreshing feeling :)

It's also extremely soft to the touch.

 {My After}

If you look really hard between my before and my after pictures, you'll see the red, splotchy areas along my face.
Depending on how you look at it, you're going to have to purchase replacement disks when yours wear out, which run about $14.99 for a set of 6, and according to the instructional CD, it all depends on the individual person to predict how long each disk lasts. It IS an added expense, but in my opinion, it's better then spending all that money at the spa for just a single treatment!

You're also most likely going to have to purchase the (or a) cleanser, toner, and revitalizing moisturizer if you really want to see results from your personal microderm, as well.

I am quite excited to continue to use this product and see where it takes me and my skin! I have to give a huge thank you to the people of personalmicroderm.com for allowing me this awesome opportunity!

Now the biggest challenge of all...

Keeping it out of the hands of my sister O.O
