Aloha Friday #27

From Kailani of Island Life:

"In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer."

I'm going to follow her lead, kick back, relax and see what you all have to say on this lovely Friday!

**************************************************************

Today's question is:

Black Friday: Best day of the year or big waste of time and sleep?

I guess I would have to go in the middle on this argument-I'm a big Black Friday fan, but I'm not hardcore about it. It's just something fun that you can do with your family and friends while getting some great deals (depending on where you go of course).

Have a prosperous and safe Black Friday!

Love and Energies.
Kayla

Featured Blogger Friday-XmasDolly

I'm very excited for this particular Featured Blogger Friday because I get to share with you someone very special to me-My cyber mommy!

Dolly of XmasDolly is such a wonderful, caring lady and one who has "adopted" me as her internet daughter-How can I NOT have her on The Element!?

I hope you enjoy this great interview because she is one of those people who has so much to say and share!

Q. What’s your name and blog? What other information would you like to share?

Well, the name of my blog is XmasDolly. It use to be The New XmasDolly, but that didn't work at all; well, not yet anyway. Other information is it was going to be The New XmasDolly because I started to diet, and it worked out for awhile because I lost 20 lbs., but my back started up again (I have Spinal Stenosis) and I couldn't exercise too much, so I'm working on getting that better first. Although, I'm still doing Water Aerobics (love it), when I can at the health club. They have an arthritic pool there I use.

Q. Why did you choose that name for your blog?

May I say one thing about the name for my blog. I've had a few comments about the X in Xmas Dolly. Christmas stands by itself and everyone knows the meaning. There's not too many people that know the real story about Xmas. The X is actually a slanted cross the Christians used in the old days so they wouldn't get thrown to the lions (Google it). It's all there in black and white. Now why did I use that name? My dad gave my mom a Valentine's candy box years ago when I was little and there was a doll on it. She always put it out at Christmas time because she was all dressed in red. She's on my button. My mom passed away in 2006 and I inherited her, and she still comes out at Christmas time. Thus the name XmasDolly for my mom!

Q. Why did you start blogging?

My daughter blogs and she was telling me how much fun it is. Meeting new people, learning things that people write about, and having fun. I'm a retired legal secretary and on disability as I noted above. I do work out of my home as a transcriptionist, but business is slow. So, she came over (my daughter is NightOwlMama, Tricia), and taught me the ropes. She's actually still teaching me-I don't retain information well. Have to make notes.

Q. What kind of stuff do you cover with your blog? Is there a specific genre you write about or is the sky the limit?

Oh Baby Girl, any that knows me knows "Sky's the Limit!" I write about everything and anything. Whatever comes to mind. From my children and grandchildren to my musician hubby. From what happens to me on the street, to jokes I get in e-mail. I love to share, love to talk, love to have fun! I also love music!

Q. What is one must read post that you have written {Include Link}?

Well, I really don't know. I don't write something I don't want you to read of course. ~hehe~ There's the post I wrote about each of my children when I first started writing, but it's only special to me I guess. The only one I can think of is about the smile on my neighbors face. You can check it out HERE. Plus, my daughter helped me with it too! I'm glad to update that post shortly due to a giveaway the sponsor has offered. I'm so glad.

Q. Name one thing you love about your blogging job.

Okay, this is where my daughter and I differ. I say it like it is, or I don't say it at all. She puts facts where I like to put feeling. Do you understand that? I'm too old to be playing games now. I want to share my experience what little I have, but if I can help someone else, I'm all for it. If someone needs a friend, I'm there and if you need a shoulder or an ear, I'm there to wipe away the tears or listen. I love people. Love me back and we're friends for life. Cross me and I disappear. That's just the way I am. Don't get me wrong, I do forgive some things, but it's a situation kind of thing.

Q. Name one thing you’re not quite fond of about your blogging job.

One thing? Girl, have you been reading my answers? I don't talk about just one thing. Okay, I'll try. Oh wait, I know. People put together meme's and giveaway list(especially these). People sign them to enhance their followers and entries on the giveaways. Well, these people take their time and their blog for us when they could have put up a giveaway or a post they wanted to, but "NO," they made a commitment to their fellow bloggers and they do it. So when I put my link up, I ALWAYS leave a comment even if it's only one stinkin' word: "THANKS." How long does it take to type the word 'Thanks'? There's over a hundred names on some of these, and I read how many comments; twelve. Twenty maybe. Oooooo, it just frosts me to no end! Why can't people be nice back?

Q. What’s one random fact about you?

I talk too much! Lol

Q. Inspiration comes in many forms for different people. What inspires you?

Oh my gosh, so many things! My children, grandchildren, and my husband mostly, but to tell you the truth, memories of my family. I love to share my good memories. My God inspires me mostly because he lets those memories happen, and I thank Him every day. Many times my friends also inspire me because the friends I have truly care. I live by the rule do on to others...And my favorite saying, "Oh Lord, fill my mouth with worthwhile stuff, and nudge me when I've said enough!"

Q. Where else can we find you(Personal Website, Etsy Shop, Twitter, Facebook, Etc.)?

XmasDolly on Blogspot, @XmasDolly on Twitter, http://www.facebook.com/#!/mchamberlinmoody, xmasdolly at comcast dot net - I have been working on a private blog for now. It's a book I wrote a long time ago, and some day I might just finish that bugger!

Giving Thanks

{Image Credit}

Today is not only a day to visit with family and friends and eat until you become stuffed {and maybe even then some...}, but most importantly it is a day to just stop and give thanks for the things in your life. Let me tell all of you, my lovely readers, I am extremely thankful for everything in my life.

Yes, I've been dealt a tough hand by life being chronically ill and whatnot, but the good has totally surpassed the bad ten fold.

So, I want to send up many, many thank yous to the universe for completely blessing me with a wonderful family, supportive friends {my readers and interwebby peeps included}, an adoring boyfriend I love very much, and generally a beautiful life.

What are you all thankful for?

I hope you and your family have a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving holiday!

Love and Energies.

Add Majikk to your Life-FaerieMajikk

Welcome Lindsay of FaerieMajikk on Etsy!

We have another Aussie in the house-Well actually, she's located in New South Wales Australia to be exact, living with her husband and four children, ALL boys!

Lindsay is currently a stay at home mum and that is her most time consuming job at this point in time, however, she has dreams one day that as an artist, she will be able to support her family-"For now, I am simply working on building a name for myself. Perhaps the rest will come in time with a little perseverance and hard work."

As you can see from the pictures included in this feature, Lindsay delves mostly into fantasy art-faeries, gothic, and dark artwork are her main focuses. Besides actual fine art, she also creates bath and body items which she recently started within the last few months.

"Like most other artists, I have been drawing and painting for as long as I can remember," explains Lindsay. "I used to sit and watch as my mother painted before I even started school. For me, art was something I could do without the need to participate in groups; I was always a very shy girl (still am i suppose), and I disliked sports where I had to be part of a group."

When you work in the field of fantasy, you really do have to have a lot of inspiration to make your work come alive. When asked where her inspiration comes from, Lindsay said that she basically gets it from the mind of a child. "I love that children can think up these wildly imaginative scenarios and it seems so completely real to them, that there are no boundaries. I love that and i wish that were true in life, to not be limited by reality." Nature is also a really big influence on her work-Lindsay even went on to say that she thinks Mother Nature is the closest thing to perfection there is.

{I would definitely have to agree with that!}

Advice from Lindsay: "Whatever you create, the most important thing is to make sure that you have a passion for it and really enjoy what you do-Otherwise you're doing something that feels like a chore, and this will show in your work and others won't enjoy it either. Be who you are and not what the current market wants you to be."

Things to know about Lindsay and her artwork:

*Besides FaerieMajikk, you can find Lindsay in her two other Etsy shops:: Wikkid Graffix and her newest store, FaerieMajikk Supplies.

*Visit Lindsay at her personal website, FaerieMajikk.com.

*A fan of her work? Follow her on Twitter @FaerieMajikk and Fan her on Facebook!

*For payment, shipping, and other information, check out her Shop Policies Page.

I was definitely captured by Lindsay's artwork, but then again, I'm definitely drawn to more of the fantasy aspect of life. You can really see the effort, work and love put into her pieces-Check out FaerieMajikk and see for yourself!

Love and Energies.

Amazon, Pedophiles and Freedom of Speech

There has been much controversy in the media and around the blogosphere about what has been going down over at Amazon.com.

I actually just heard about it two or so days ago while watching Larry King Live with my mom-Have you heard about it?

Apparently, an author {if you can call the disgusting sack of shit that} self published a book entitled "The Pedophile’s Guide to Love and Pleasure: a Child-lover’s Code of Conduct," which is basically a how-to guide for pedophiles, telling them what they can get away with that won't get them in trouble.

Penetration is out. You can’t do that with a child, but kissing and fondling I don’t think is that big of a problem,” said the horrendous excuse for a human being.

As if that wasn't enough, the news went on to show a video of the guy actually defending his published works, saying that his goal is to appeal to the better nature of pedosexuals, with hope that their doing so will result in less hatred and perhaps lighter sentences should they ever be caught.

He also told the cameras that pedophiles where portrayed in the news as murderers and rapists, and that true 'pedosexuals' are basically peaceful beings that love children.

SICK BASTARD!

Here is where the whole controversy with Amazon comes into play-Amazon took it upon themselves to actually sell the book on their site and defend themselves under the first amendment when they came under fire from countless people.

Okay.

Freedom of speech is such a wonderful right that we American's have and I would never want to deprive someone of that right. Amazon defended themselves, saying that to deny selling this "book" on their site, they would be denying the "author's" freedom of speech.

I truly understand and acknowledge that yes, this would violation of his freedom of speech.

HOWEVER, when our founding fathers sat down and created the amendment, I'm pretty positive that they did not have pedophiles creating how-to manuals in mind. Sometimes in these cases, people and companies have rights to deny the freedom of speech amendment if they feel the situation is immoral, dangerous, etc etc.

Case in point:: When innocent children are in potential danger of being molested due to a sick, twisted manual being sold on Amazon saying this 'sexual lifestyle' is okay.

People are also going on to say that it's not Amazon's fault; that they are doing what any good company would do. I respect people's opinions on this matter, but for me, any company-I don't care if your Amazon, Borders, Barnes and Noble, a cart on the street or a guy selling stuff from the inside of his jacket-any person or company willing to peddle this filth is not one that I want to give my business to.

Big corporation or little business, it basically just comes down to morals and common sense, apparently, some companies are majorly lacking in that department.

Since them, Amazon has pulled the book from their site. I've heard a few different conflicting stories: they're re-reviewing it, there is another different manual up, they've pulled it for good-Whatever the truth is, I'm sick and very disappointed that this whole thing happened in the first place.

They are definitely going to have to do something very large to gain my business, loyalty, and respect back.

If you would like to read a much more extensive posting about this issue, head on over to Telling Dad {his post is so much more powerful then mine}.

Share-a-Post Sunday(11/14)

Welcome to Share-a-Post Sunday!

6 More Days and an Update

Six more days to go.

Which brings me to a few updates I need to share with all my readers::

As you know, or found out vaguely from my short posting yesterday, I haven't been doing the greatest health wise. Of course my body had to pick the week before my birthday to start acting up, but I digress...

I've decided that I'm going to have to postpone My 21st Birthday Celebration until I'm well enough to contact companies and actually TYPE on the computer regularly. I'm not exactly sure when it's going to be changed to, but I'm still planning on having it darn it!!

As for me, I'm better then yesterday {as you can tell from actual put together sentences on this post}, but I'm still in a tremendous amount of pain. I can walk, but it's slow-going. My migraine decided to sporadically come back, but it's not immobilizing as before.

All in all, just another obstacle to overcome.

I've been sick before on my birthday, so I'm prepared for that if it becomes reality, however I'm hoping I'll actually be able to go OUT and enjoy my special day.

Either way, I still have 6 more days!

Thank you all for your well wishes-I appreciate each and every one of them and love you guys dearly :)

Love and Energies.
Kayla
