1-800-FLOWERS.COM Review and Giveaway

This giveaway is now closed

When I was in New York at BlogHer 2010 exploring the two whole floors of different exhibits and exhibitors, there were a ton of remarkable sponsors that I got to learn about and interacted with--One of which was 1-800-FLOWERS.COM.

1-800-FLOWERS.COM is your leading source of everything floral {and more}! Here is a little about the company from their site:

"Making people smile is no small accomplishment. It’s an art and a passion that’s been in our family for decades – it’s what drove Jim McCann to open his first flower shop in 1976. It’s not just in our business plan; it’s actually how we see the world.

When we see a rose or a peony or a Peruvian lily, we don’t just see a gorgeous flower—we see an opportunity to help someone express a feeling: appreciation, adoration, condolences, gratitude, love. It can be hard to express what’s in your heart. But a special bouquet can do the job amazingly well."

I have to say, when I got the Bucket of Birthday Wishes Bouquet delivered to my doorstep two weeks ago, I had a smile plastered on my face from ear to ear! The funny thing is, my 21st birthday is less then a month away, and when I got the gorgeous flowers, my mother thought they were from my aunt who forgot when my birthday was again ^.^

Anywho, I'm excited to be able to tell my readers quite honestly that the bouquet I received was just as beautiful and vibrant as the advertised picture on their website! Seriously, even my mother fawned over it, and it's VERY hard to please her with floral arrangements.

As shown in the pictures, The Bucket of Birthday Wishes Bouquet is a lovely mix of peach roses, carnations, yellow daisies, ferns and more, all presented in an adorable lime green birthday bucket {hence it's name} adorned with festive looking birthday balloons!

Along with the bucket, you receive with your arrangement a multicolor felted 'Happy Birthday' sign nestled right in the arrangement-What better way to say happy birthday, then with a felted sign!? LOL

There is one thing that I wasn't thrilled about and that's watering the flowers-I found it quite hard to get the water INTO the bucket itself.

No worries though-If you have a watering can or something of the sort, you should be just fine to feed your lovelies daily :)

Here are some other pictures I took of my wonderful "birthday" surprise!

Spook-A-Look Halloween Photo Contest Entry

Ever since my sister and I were little, my mother has encouraged us to make our own costumes through her example-To this day, I can't remember ever wearing a store bought costume because it just takes away most of the fun of things in my opinion! A few costumes I remember making for myself when I was old enough were a Renaissance woman, a gypsy, and a goddess, all from articles I found around the house or bought at thrift stores. This year is probably my FAVORITE costume of all of them: A 50's Pin Up Girl. I hate to boast, but I put this costume together in less then 3 hours-In my opinion, it turned out pretty darn good!

This post is a contest entry for Giveaway Blogs and UPrinting.com's Spook-A-Look Halloween Photo Contest-Make sure to head on over HERE and check out the other contest entries!

Please help me by commenting on this post, tweeting, and liking my entry!

Aloha Friday #24

From Kailani of Island Life:

"In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer."

I'm going to follow her lead, kick back, relax and see what you all have to say on this lovely Friday!

**************************************************************

Today's question is:

What are your plans for Halloween?

I really have nothing going on-I got to use my costume last Saturday so I'm more then happy {post to come} So this Sunday will probably be spent just hanging with friends at my house playing pool and watching scary movies :)

Have a happy Friday!

Love and Energies.

Pretty, Pink, and Floral

I'm so very lucky to have been blessed with 20/20 vision pretty much my whole life, so I've never really needed or had to use eyeglasses of any sort....

Wait. I lied.

When I was in 1st grade, I went for my annual eye doctor exam and threw the whole big E descending letter test because I thought wearing prescription glasses was cool-I got these cute little pink floral reading glasses and proudly wore them to school the next week!

Proudly, that is, until the class bully called me a 'four-eyed freak.'

After that, I conveniently "lost" my pretty pink floral reading glasses and miraculously learned how to read without them! The funny thing about that is I found them YEARS later and I thought how silly I was to have pretended to need glasses just to look cool.

There are people like my mother who really NEED reading glasses, or glasses just to be able to see on a daily basis. Thanks to sites like GlassesUSA.com, you can get all sorts of eye glasses online for whatever eye problem you might have!

Visit them on their Facebook Fanpage to see all the different offers, deals, and current goings-on.

GlassesUSA was kind enough to give T.E.E readers 10% off your next purchase with them! Just use the code mommy10 during your next purchase and enjoy clear vision xD

{Isn't he the cutest?!}

I was compensated for writing this post-All opinions and information found in this post are 100% honest, well researched, and mine

I've Been Featured-Kinda

I've been featured!

However, it's not on another blog or website.

If you remember, I had my friend Emily do a Fashion Wrap Up post for this years Oscar awards {and a mighty fine job she did I might add}. Well, this Fall she went away to college and has been busting her butt in her classes, one of which is a journalism class.

I got a call from her asking me what she should do a write up on and after a few suggestions on my end, she asked if I wouldn't mind being interviewed for her assignment!

I felt so special xD

Here is what the final draft looks like-I think she did a wonderful job!

**************************************************************

Kayla Potega is not the typical 20-year-old. Any type of physical activity she wants to do must be planned out in advance. One day she may be running around with friends, and the next day she could be bedbound, unable to walk. This is all because Kayla has Lyme disease.

Nearly seven years ago, Potega was a carefree young woman. She was attending school, hanging out with friends, and enjoying her teenage years. One day at school, her life changed forever. Potega became very ill and her condition was a mystery for the next five years. “From the time I got sick until the time I found out it was Lyme, it was a whirlwind of over a hundred doctors, nurses, and specialists,” Potega explained. Many painful tests were administrated, along with a collection of different treatments ranging from traditional western medicine to acupuncture to massage therapy.

Potega’s mother, Joanne, spent many hours online searching for something that would help give their family answers to why her daughter was so ill. During this time, Potega explains how she experienced every emotion that could possibly be thought of. Finally after coming across information on Lyme disease, Potega and her family knew this had to be the cause of her illness, despite what the doctors kept telling the family. She was finally officially diagnosed with Lyme disease in 2009.

From late 2008 to 2009, Potega was bedbound for 10 months. During this period, something happened that changed Potega’s life again. “After the first month, I was going a little stir crazy,” Potega explained, “The only thing I did on a daily basis was spend my time on the computer and do my jewelry, so I thought I’d combine the two and see how it went.” This is how Potega’s blog, The Eclectic Element was born.

The Eclectic Element’s motto is “reviews, giveaways, features, and life.” The blog started off small, but a year and a half later, companies are approaching Potega to advertise and review their products on her site. People also write in to Potega for advice on everything from blogging to Lyme.

The Eclectic Element has a Google page rank of 3, with over 500 followers, and 1,140 followers on Twitter. Potega currently has 143 email subscribers and over 1,000 monthly page views. Potega says one of her “bloggy” dreams is that one day, someone will stop her on the street and say “Oh my goodness, you’re Kayla from The Eclectic Element!”

Potega has been given many extraordinary opportunities since starting the blog. She has met many people from all over the world, such as Japan. She has won over $1,000 worth of products from online contests and give-a-ways. Potega also traveled to New York City last August to attend BlogHer 2010. (BlogHer is a blogging conference that is a major event in the blog world.) She also started a line of Lyme disease bracelets, where the proceeds go to other “Lymies” in need of treatment.

Potega says the Lyme disease is what pushed her to start the jewelry business, which led to the blog. She is not thrilled to live the life of a “Lymie”, but she would not want to do things differently. “Once I stumbled into the business and blogging world, it helped me get through those long months, as well as help me be successful in a subject I may not have known anything about if I was healthy and in a different position.”

Saturday's Picks(10/23)-Finger Candy

I have a particular fetish with jewelry--I mean, you'd probably have to see my jewelry armoire to even comprehend HOW big a fetish, but I digress...

Even though I love all types of jewelry, I have a special fondness for rings, and being Etsy, you can imagine how many awesome, amazing, stunning rings I've drooled over since becoming acquainted with the site nearly 3 years ago.

If you're a ring connoisseur like me, get ready to drool xD

Enjoy

Health Update Thursday(10/21)

I know I haven't done a health update Thursday in awhile, but I thought this would be a good time to explain to my readers whats been happening the past week and why I've been so sporadic with postings, emails and everything else...

A little under two weeks ago, I came down with a massive migraine that inhibited me from doing anything except downing medicine, wearing sunglasses, and sleeping my days away. I'm fortunate enough to not experience migraines often and when I do, they only last about a day or two before they leave-Unfortunately, this case was different.

One day went by, then two, then three rolled around with my head getting worse, then better, then worse again. One day I'd be clutching a bucket and trying not to move and the next I'd be without sunglasses doing my laundry.

Truth be told, I'm STILL suffering it's effects.

I talked with my M.I. and she said that It's not a regular migraine-You see, I have pathogens in my body and they are causing me to be sick. I was given stuff to kill said pathogens and it worked. Unfortunately, I have some serious issues detoxing, so those dead pathogens are free -floating all around in my body reeking havoc.

This classifies me as 'toxic.'

So I have a toxic headache caused by the pathogens I killed that won't detox from my brain, and I have no idea HOW to detox them from my brain.

Other then that, the same old same old: pain, fatigue, compromised immune system, blah blah blah.

I just want to be better now.

The Girlz of Galstanberry:: Exclusive Author Interview

I'm very excited to introduce you all to a pretty incredible woman by the name of Garen S. Wolff, author of the newly published book, The Girlz of Galstanberry.

The Girlz of Glastanberry is the first in a series of books about 5 young girls from all different backgrounds coming together in one place-"From the boroughs of New York, to the beaches of San Francisco, girls hail from all walks of life, to sport the violet blazer and pink beret of the Galstanberry Girls Academy."

Learning about the author of this refreshing new series was just as exciting as learning about the series itself! Don't just take my word for it though-check out her exclusive interview below :)

**************************************************************

Q. What made you want to write a book? How long did it take to write from the first idea to publishing?

The diversity of girls around the world--tall, short, blonde, brunette, spunky, shy! In fact, while walking down the street, I see no two girls that look alike! Every girl has a story to tell due to their varied experiences, geographic location, ethnicity, family structure, etc. Therefore, I wanted to create a series that truly reflected the diversity of girls' voices. It took me SEVERAL months from the first idea to publishing.

Q. Is Galstanberry a real place? If so, why did you choose it. If not, how would you describe Galstanberry to a person if it WAS a real place?

Imagine a twenty acre campus that rises up from the horizon like a French chateau with high-spiraling turrets that seem to touch the clouds. It is flanked by a magnificent rose garden and horse stables. Welcome to Galstanberry Girls Academy! Although it is a fictional boarding school in Connecticut, its campus structure resembles that of Yale and Princeton. Carillion Bell tower, which stands regally in Campus Square, fills the air with symphonies of Beethoven and Mozart.

Q. How does attending a private school from Pre-kindergarden to 12th grade help contribute to the overall idea of The Girlz of Galstanberry?

Both Detroit Country Day (pre-Kindergarten to 12th grade) and Wellesley College shaped, The Girlz of Galstanberry. Country Day exposed me to students from all over the country and world. This influenced the representation of different cultures in The Girlz of Galstanberry. The blazer and tie reflect my years of wearing school uniforms.
Wellesley College also influenced the book. The traditions, such as High Tea, pearls and House Mothers, are reflected in the traditions of Galstanberry Girls Academy.

Q. Lillian, Brandi, Fei, Tabitha or Nisha-Which character would you say you are and why?

Honestly, I see myself in each of the girls. I definitely have the energy and spunkiness of Lillian, and, as my family and friends can attest, the humor of Brandi. On certain occasions (when I'm annoyed), I can be sassy like Tabitha, with clever comebacks like Nisha. When I need to speak at a book singing in front of tons of people, I muster all the confidence and strength of Fei :-)

Q. What do you hope girls and woman reading your book take away from it?

Great question!! The most important message of The Girlz of Galstanberry, is that girls should embrace and celebrate their unique voices. What do I mean by "voice"? Girls' voices (aka personalities, opinions) are shaped by their cultural background, socio-economic status, friends, family and even geographic location! Therefore, girls shouldn't feel confined to anyone's standard of beauty or "popular status". We are all different and should be celebrated for our uniqueness!

Q. What is your favorite part of the book?

My favorite part is the integration of cultural nuances, like accents, dialects and native languages. For example, Tabitha's chapter is full of Texan phrases and dialect. Mother is pronounced, "mo-thah", and twenty-five is pronounced, "twenny-fav". In Lillian's chapter, Spanish phrases are used and translated in footnotes. The book has extra flair because of each girl's cultural and geographic differences.

Q. What can we look forward to from you in the future?

A sequel!!! The last chapter, "Welcome Home!" is a complete teaser! In the next book, readers will find out the girls' roommates, classes, etc. And of course, there will be some dra-ma! I'm TOTALLY excited for it!

Q. How can girls become "Galstanberry Ambassadors?"

Galstanberry Ambassadors are VERY SPECIAL! Their job is to spread the Galstanberry news in their school, city or state! When we travel around the country for author events, they (and ofcourse their parents) are our main contact person! Galstanberry Ambassadors that successfully get an author event in their school or town, will be featured on the Galstanberry website, and be presented with a limited edition, autographed Galstanberry poster, at the event. Interested, just email: GalstanberryGazette@galstanberrygirlz.com

Q. Will you be offering any holiday specials on the website?

Yes! For a limited time, people can buy 2 books at a time for just 18.50! Just click the Holiday Discount option!

**************************************************************

I want to personally thank Garen for taking the time out of her busy schedule to interact with me and my readers-I had so much fun doing this interview and learning more about her and her book :)

I very much look forward to seeing what else she has in store for us in the future! If you're interested in learning more about Garen, The Girlz of Galstanberry, events or where to purchase the book, check out The Girlz of Galstanberry Website!

Speaking of the future, I'm sure she'll be back on The Element sometime soon *wink wink*

Love and Energies.

Mailbox Monday(10/18)

Mailbox Monday divulges into the inner workings of my mailbox throughout the week. From books to jewelry to free samples to random magazines and letters-You never know what will be in the mail this week...

***********************************************************************

I was lucky enough to be one of the 'chosen' few {and by few I mean like 50,000 LOL} people who were sent a coupon for a free bottle of Advil.

I mean, free is always good!

I can't seem to find the link, but when I do, I'll add it here so my readers can take advantage of that freebie as well :)

I got yet another credit card application in the mail, this time from Capital One.

I must have me some good credit xD

For those who're curious, I will not be applying because I already have 2 cards and quite frankly, credit cards kind of freak me out. Lol

I actually got some information in the mail from someone running for office in our area.

It surprised me because I've never got anything like that before-I suppose since I'm of voting age, it's going to be happening more often as elections draw near, but it's still weird.

Aloha Friday #23

From Kailani of Island Life:

"In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer."

I'm going to follow her lead, kick back, relax and see what you all have to say on this lovely Friday!

**************************************************************

Today's question is:

What do you guys do for a migraine and or headache? Any suggestions?

I've had this KILLER migraine since Monday and it doesn't look like it's going away anytime soon. Like I keep telling people, it feels like a bunch of very large Brazilian soccer players spent the past few days kicking around my head in lieu of a ball >.<

Along with head-splitting pain, I'm experiencing:

-Sensitivity to light
-Sensitivity to sound
-Extreme nausea
-Loss of appetite

Any help would be extremely appreciated!

Happy Friday.

Love and Energies.

Slapdash Sunday(10/10)

Slapdash Sunday is a day for your proverbial week 'leftovers.' Is there something you wanted to say, but just forgot? Is there something you want to write about, but isn't worth a whole page? Do you have a random thought, funny or otherwise that needs to be written down?
That is what Slapdash Sunday is for!

***********************************************************************

Awhile ago, I was contacted via blog comment about a site called Giveaway Scout-The kind gentleman informed me that I could register my blog and they would help spread the word about any giveaways I had.

I hate to say it, but I was a little wary, so I did a little checking around.

It's a really cool sight!! Once you submit your blog and are accepted, any giveaways you have are automatically scanned through your RSS feed and added to their site-They have over 1,000 giveaways added DAILY!

For those of you who do giveaways on your site, I'd definitely consider adding your blog :)

Today October 10th, 2010

10-10-10

Whose ever favorite or lucky number is 10 is probably going to have a good day today!
