Featured Blogger Friday(3/26)-JamericanSpice

Man have I been a busy little college bee over here! I missed the last two or so days, but I knew I had to bring you your dose of Featured Blogger Friday this week!

What kind of blogger would I be if I missed that!?

Today we have the very beautiful Colette (I love, love, love her name!!) from JamericanSpice :)

Now, Colette is a fairly new blogger to me, so this is an especially great treat because I get to learn a little more about her along with all of you!

Q. What’s your name and blog? What other information would you like to share?

My name is Colette. Beautiful French name, huh? I still have no idea how my mother came up with it but I love it! I think I should ask her :) I am SAHM of two children: A little girl who just turned three and a boy who will turn five in the next two months! I hope to adopt two children into our family and also to have more biological children. I am very shy but if put into situations where I need to speak up and lead, I will have no problem outwardly. I love to dance and I love music. I can't have a favorite song or artist because I love such a wide variety of music. When I grow up I want to be a dancer and a diplomat.

My blog's name is JamericanSpice.

Q. Why did you choose that name for your blog?

I wanted to join both my cultures. I choose part of the word for my birth country 'Jamaica' and part from my home country 'America' and added a little spice representing the me in it all. Hence 'JamericanSpice.'

Q. Why did you start blogging?

I wanted to start writing about my life in journal form because someone told me it would help in my healing, but alas, my blog is now wide open and I find it hard to share so much of the raw details of my life growing up without parents in the orphanages in my country. I still might do it, but it's taking some thought. It's easier to write these things being obscured.

Q. What kind of stuff do you cover with your blog? Is there a specific genre you write about or is the sky the limit?

That's where the spice comes in. I like to share a little bit of everything and so I don't have a specific genre. I resist the constant barrage of articles that tells me that this is how I should run my blog or I'm not a success if I'm not into this or that or have that domain etc. I allow myself to blog freely.

Q. What is one must read post that you have written {Include Link}?

Hmm, I'll have to go check :)
I did and these are a few of the ones that means the most to
me.

These are my favorite and most read:
Perfected in mama's kitchen: http://jamericanspice.blogspot.com/2009/01/perfected-in-mamas-kitchen.html

Hawaii - Our journey into amazing - http://jamericanspice.blogspot.com/2009/02/hawaii-our-journey-into-amazing.html

My little writer - http://jamericanspice.blogspot.com/2009/10/ww-my-little-writer.html

Q. Name one thing you love about your blogging job.

I do it on my own time and I get to meet some wonderful people from all over the world! I couldn't get to travel to so many places otherwise.

Q. Name one thing you’re not quite fond of about your blogging job.

Sometimes I don't get to visit everyone the same day or week and so it get's stretched out but I still save every comment so that I can return visits and share the love. I wish I was sorta super person so that I could return visits and comments on time, but there are so many people that it's hard to do that at all.

Q. What’s one random fact about you?

I won a dance competition at a club once :) I was first out of 30 people.

Q. Inspiration comes in many forms for different people. What inspires you?

Music has a way of inspiring me. There's always a language in music that is good for any situation that I'm going through.

Q. Where else can we find you(Personal Website, Etsy Shop, Twitter, Facebook, Etc.)?

It seems I am so connected now. *laughs*. You can always find me at these places:

Inspirational Tuesday(3/23)

"Let's see: We're trying to pass a health care plan written by a committee whose chairman doesn't understand it, passed by a Congress that hasn't read it, to be signed by a president who also hasn't read it AND smokes, to be administered by a treasury chief who didn't pay his taxes, to be overseen by an obese surgeon general and financed by a country that's broke. What could possibly go wrong?"

I couldn't help but put this as my post for this Inspirational Tuesday-It's just too damn funny (and true) not to! LOL

First Week of School:: An Update

Okay people.

So, last week was my first official week of schooling with an introduction to Speech on Monday, and Biology on Tuesday and Thursdays.

I can honestly say Speech is Oh-Kaaaaaay.....I think.....We'll see when it comes time to give my first speech this Friday.

Biology is a WHOLE other can of atoms-Or was it molecules?

Basically, the Biology I took is condensed into 8 weeks like I explained, but I don't think I really comprehended what that actually meant at the time >.<

I've already been to class twice, and this Thursday is our first test on chapters 1 through 4, but here is the kicker:: The 4 classes I will have been to is the equivalent of 4 weeks of class if I were in a regular semester-long class.

What in the HELL have I gotten myself into!?

I'm just focusing on studying (ALOT) and breathing so I don't end up flipping my lid.

Good plan huh?

I'm trying to keep up with my blogging but I'm not going to lie; it's hard. I still need to find a good balance, but in the mean time, please know that I'm still here and not ignoring your emails, comments, blog posts, contest, etc.

If you guys have any advice on Speech, Biology, blogging or even how to juggle all three, it's greatly appreciated :)

Hope the start of this week is a great one for ya'll.

Love and Energies to all!
Kayla

Mailbox Monday(3/22)

Mailbox Monday divulges into the inner workings of my mailbox throughout the week. From books to jewelry to free samples to random magazines and letters-You never know what will be in the mail this week...

***********************************************************************

Early in the week, I got quite a few surprises!!

I won me some organic fruit from FruitGuys.com.

You heard me correctly-I won a 50 piece serving of organic fruit via Sweet Greens!

You should have seen my mother's face when I brought the box in from the delivery guy (who was such a nice guy by the way!). Can you say 'Priceless'?

Her eyes got all wide and she said, 'Wow. You won some FRUIT.'

Not only was it really pretty, it was EXTREMELY yummy :)

The same day I got my scrumptious fruit, I got my long awaited wall quote from Belvedere Designs, which I won from J. Leigh Designz!

I was ecstatic to get that because I've waited so long to be able to win one of those wall vinyls :D

I hope to be able to do a review in the near future when I get the beautiful thing up on my wall, so keep on coming back to see how it turns out ;)

I think this week was food week for me, because I won some more food which was delivered later on in the week.

I happened to win it from my friend Kailani of An Island Life.

I was able to snack on a bit of it yesterday evening and Oh. Dear. Lord-It was simply amazing {Maybe I'll get to do a review on that as well ;) }

The best part of it all is it's all organic, natural and even wheat-free!!

What did you get in the mail this week?

Any ideas or suggestions?!

I have been looking forward to the first day of Spring since the first day of Winter hit!

I was beyond thrilled when the clock struck midnight last night because it means out with the cold and in with the warmth and sunlight...

Boy did I get a rude awakening when I woke up-Snow. On. The. Ground.

To quote my friend Emily, "First day of Spring:: What a rip off."

Is it wrong to love an inanimate object more the life itself!?

Okay, maybe not more then life, but it comes pretty damn close ;)

I just got my Ipod touch yesterday and I can't seem to put her down!!!!!!

Charlies got a new little sister lovely named Charlotte.

Hershey's Better Basket Blog Hop

How amazing does that Easter basket in the above picture look?!

I can for sure tell you that I would love getting it (all that chocolate....YUMMY!)-What if I told you I was already gifted with that lovely, looking basket TWICE already....?

Virtually that is ;)

Thanks to my wonderful bloggy friends Kimberly of She Scribes and Angie of A Simple Kinda Life, I was informed of a great cause that's going on brought to you by Hershey's and a ton of different online bloggers!

Here is some information on the Hershey's Better Basket Blog Hop:

"This Easter season Hershey is all about helping you to create Better Easter Baskets with their special limited edition Easter candies found at Walmart.

More importantly, Hershey wants to promote the idea of going good in our own communities. The Hershey Company is committed to making a difference in the communities where we live in, and has a heritage of giving back to the community."

Thanks to Hershey's and 20 different bloggers looking to blog for a good cause, baskets like the one above were created and given to charities of each bloggers choice to spread Hershey's ongoing message around: We are ALL working together to do good in and out of our own communities!

In addition to those 20 baskets donated to charity, Hershey's is also sponsoring a Better Basket Blog Hop where Hershey will donate $10 per blog post entry for the Children's Miracle Network, up to $5,000.

How fantastic is that!?

If you want to be apart of the blog hop, here are the rules:

  • Copy and paste these rules to your blog post.
  • Create a blog post giving a virtual Easter Basket to another blogger – you can give as many Virtual Baskets as you want.
  • Link back to person who gave you an Easter Basket.
  • Let each person you are giving a Virtual Easter Basket know you have given them a Basket.
  • Leave your link at BetterBasket.info/BlogHop comment section. You can also find the official rules of this #betterbasket blog hop, and more information about Better Basket with Hershey’s there.
  • Hershey’s is donating $10 per each blog participating to the Better Basket Blog Hop to Children’s Miracle Network (up to total of $5,000 by blog posts written by April 4th, 2010).
  • Please note that only one blog post by each blog url will count towards the donation.

So not it's my turn to give away some virtual Easter Baskets:

1. Shannon of The Mommy-Files
2. Melissa of Outnumbered 3 to 1
3. Grace of Sandier Pastures
4. Angel of Angel Believes
5. Amy of Keeping up with the Schultz Family
6. Matty of Matty Thoughts
7. Susan of A City Gal Moves to Oz Land
8. Jenine of Badger Mom
9. Kailani of An Island Life
10. Jennifer of Eighty MPH Mom
11. Lu of Crocheted Little Things
12. Silvergirl of Live for Life

There are SO many other people that I would love to pass a basket to, but If I listed you all we'd be here all day. LOL

So please, please, please feel free to take the picture above and write your own blog post! Remember, it's for a good cause :)

Happy Spring everyone!!

Aloha Friday #10

From Kailani of Island Life:

"In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer."

I'm going to follow her lead, kick back, relax and see what you all have to say on this lovely Friday!

**************************************************************

Today's question is:

Are you a nap person?

Oh man, I totally wish I was a nap person-When I'm tired and want to take a nap, I lay down on the bed and get all comfy, but as much as will myself to fall asleep and visit that wonderful nap-time place, I can never do it!

I have achieved it a few times, but most of the time it's a no-go :(

Happy Friday everyone!

Health Update Thursday(3/18)

Where do I start!?

This week has been a whirlwind, yet all at the same time it feels like it has gone by comically slow(is that a phrase?).

I started my speech class on Monday and I'm pretty happy with it-The teacher is pretty wonderful and the class is great so I think I'm going to feel pretty comfortable giving speeches(or so I think...we shall see!).

Tuesday was my first intro to human biology class and as I sit there listening to the teacher tell me how hard this class is going to be, I'm pretty much internally tweakin' out a bit. Man, after I left that class my legs ached pretty bad >.<

FYI, stress brings on the leg pain and symptom flair ups.

Right now, I'm just trying to juggle my homework and not completely crash and burn-I'm slowly trying to take on the whole whatever-will-be-will-be mindset, but it's hard for a perfectionist like myself.

Oh, I did my second exercise pole dancing class yesterday with a friend of mine and I can honestly say I'm COMPLETELY in love with the whole practice. I even tried to get my mum to agree to me getting a pole for the house but to no avail...

*Sigh*

All in all, it's going very well! Although, I'm going to take today off to try to get homework and future posts done.

I still love you guys :D :D :D

Have a wonderful, amazing, beautiful Thursday!

Luck of the Irish

Happy St. Patties day Lads and Lassies ;)

It seriously snuck up on me-I was doing my schoolwork(don't I sound all college-like He He) and put down the date on a paper, and wondered why the 17th sounded like something vaguely important. LOL

I hope today everyone has the luck of the Irish!! Who knows, you may even see that extremely elusive Leprechaun that is rumored to appear each year on this day...If you do, tell him to head over my way because I'm in need of some of that gold he has stashed at the end of the rainbow ;)

Have a wonderful day everyone!

Love and Energies.

P.s. I'm going to wear my Claddagh ring ALL day today!

Judgment:: A Life Lesson

Judgements prevent us from seeing the good that lies beyond appearances.

--Wayne Dyer

I ran across an incredibly, AMAZING post by one of my blogging friends, Karie, over at the The Five Fish on the act of judging.

"What I am amazed by is not by the act of judgment, we all pre-judge to some degree in life, I am amazed by the wicked passing of judgment," says Karie. "The fact people will vomit malevolent statements based on their own ignorance. "

While reading this particular post, I couldn't help but realize halfway through that if I had to write down my personal feelings on the subject of judgment in a blog post, it would look exactly like hers-I was amazed because she actually explained my thoughts better then I ever could on the subject!

I love my family and my friends so incredibly much, my heart swells at the thought of all the possible love in one body, but I hate, hate, hate it when they pass judgment on me or other people, places and things around them.

Of course I'm not sitting here and telling you all that I'm judgment free, but I can honestly say I'm better then most people I know-If I catch myself passing judgment, I try to remedy my line of thinking or catch myself in the act so that I can exchange the judgment I just passed with some sort of positive compliment.

I hate to be judged, so why would I do it to others?

"Maybe the fact remains is that people judge so harshly based on his or her own fears, insecurities, bold jealousy, or the flat fact that they REFUSE to accept that other people have a way of life very different from his or her own. Thus they shove their opinion and “their way” down another’s throat, going as far as to violate boundaries, destroy relationships, exhibit public humiliation, and failing to find the even keel to say “I agree to disagree, your life, your decisions, not mine, no bearing."

So my very serious question for you all today is, why? Why pass judgment on others you really don't know or understand? Does it somehow make you feel better about yourself and your life?

Maybe next time you catch yourself passing a judgment about someone you really don't know, you can do what I do and swap it for a compliment instead. While your at it, pay Karie a visit and read her extraordinary post on judging others HERE!

MckLinky Blog Hop(3/16)-My Fur-Babies

This week's MckLinky Blog Hop theme is:

Pets!

When I saw this topic, I knew I HAD to participate-I mean, I can't knowingly pass up a chance to brag about my little fur-babies can I!?

This is my first baby, Max-a-Million. He actually came before me, so when I finally came around, he was VERY protective of me. Slept by my door when I slept and went to get mum when I cried. Wouldn't let any strangers within spittin' distance from me. Let me lay on his belly like one of those back cushions.

Oh man, I was beyond devastated when he died-I cried every night for months.

This is our 'newest' (and I say new very loosely since he's been with us for 7 years now) member of the family-His name is Jake, but I call him Booger :)

He is THE smartest dog I've ever seen in my life-And yet, he can be the dumbest animal. LOL

Anything on the ground or at eye level is his. He is attached to his kong ball like a child is to it's binky. He knows how to 'find mummy's keys' when they are lost (and they are lost quite often).

Monday Mingle(3/15)

Welcome to February 1st's Monday Mingle sponsored by Jennifer 'Speedy' over at Eighty MPH Mom!!

What is Monday Mingle?

If your interested in participating, Monday Mingle is basically where a bunch of fellow bloggers get together and answer a few pre-specified questions through video blog, then post their video on their blog and link it up so other people can see your video!

If your interested for more info, check out This Post-Happy Vlogging Everyone!

*************************************************************

Our questions for this week:

1. If you were forced to choose between skydiving, base jumping off a skyscaper, or rock climbing, which would you choose?

2. Are you an aggressive or defensive driver?

3. Due to a sour economy the genie can only grant you ONE wish. What would it be?

**Hopefully video to come soon**

Mailbox Monday(3/15)

Mailbox Monday divulges into the inner workings of my mailbox throughout the week. From books to jewelry to free samples to random magazines and letters-You never know what will be in the mail this week...

***********************************************************************

When I want something, I set my mind to get it. Period.

This is what happened when I saw the movie Whip It-I LOVED that movie so much and the soundtrack rocked-my-socks off, so I knew I wanted them, however I was too cheap to buy them.

Cue online giveaways and contests.

Thanks to my strong will, determination and a little luck, not only did I win a copy of the DVD (hasn't arrived yet), but I also got the soundtrack thanks to Kailani of An Island Life which arrived bright and early Tuesday :)

Of course, as much as I love getting products and freebies in the mail each week, I always welcome a good, ol' fashioned, hand written letter.

There is nothing like that personal connection between two people that email could never capture :)

I was lucky enough to get one in the mail on Friday from a Lymie friend of mine who ironically lives in IL, too.

For those of you who are always jealous of my mailbox each week, I am glad to inform you that I'm a normal person; I get bills too!

I got my credit card bill on Friday, as well as that lovely handwritten letter.

Granted, I only had to pay about $5.00, but still, it was a bill! Lol

What did you get in the mail this week?
