Hodgepodgity of Goodness-Acrylic and Steel

We have a husband and wife team as today's featured artists, so please say a big hello to both Adam and Erika of Acrylic and Steel on Etsy!

Our husband and wife team hail from Albuquerque, New Mexico, and if the shop name didn't tip you off already, they specialize in Acrylic painting and Steel work-Erika, the painter, has been painting longer than she remembers, and even though clothing isn't found on her site, has a degree in fashion design. "I often see things and want to try making it. I also like having things that are one of a kind- and handmade is the only way to achieve that."

Adam, the forger, has always found knifes fascinating, so he took a bladesmithing class, and has since been hand forging beautiful knives. His father is a craftsman, so Adam learned many of his woodworking techniques from him.

They both got started with Etsy when Erika was pregnant with their daughter-She stumbled across a Youtube tutorial that pointed her right to the site! Even though it took a little while to make up her mind, she decided to go for it and since then has found it quite fun and easy. Of course with the two of them and a daughter, their crafting business can only get them so far, so that's where their real life jobs come into play: Adam is a wildlife biologist and Erika works for my dad because I can take my baby, Autumn, to work instead of taking her to daycare.

I couldn't have put it any better myself so here is Erika explaining what they do:

"In our store we sell the most eclectic hodge-podgidy of things. My husband forges knives, and is the true talent in the family :) He also makes jewelry. The rollerskate bearing necklaces are a popular item, we have sold a few of them on etsy, and several off of etsy. The very first one was a gift to me when we started dating.I play roller derby and my husband is a ref, so it was very meaningful. It definitely got my sweet man some brownie points!

I am an artist. I paint in acrylic and watercolor. I love doing mixed media pieces. My aesthetic can be very dark, but I also have some very vibrant pieces. I am also a designer, I can custom make almost any garment desired, but will only do it if I get to design the dress myself- I hate knocking off others' garments. I also like playing with sculpy, decoupage and collage, sewing, needle felting, and block printing."

Things to keep in mind about Adam and Erika, their products, and their shop:

*Right now, they are having a SALE: Free Shipping on items over $100.00!!

*Check out their blog: Acrylic and Steel on Blogspot!

*Besides their blog, you can follow Acrylic and Steel on Twitter, too!

*Must be 18 years or older to purchase knifes.

*For payment, shipping, and other important information, check out their Shop Policies Page.

Advice from Erika: "Just because you don't like it does not mean that someone else wont LOVE it. It's amazing how many "throw away" pieces I have sold."

I can honestly say this is definitely a store to put on 'My Favorites' List! Not only am I TOTALLY into knives, but I love art, too-So that's like double points. Plus, you couldn't meet two nicer people then Adam and Erika of Acrylic and Steel :D

Love and Energies.
Kayla

Hey, thanks from me too! Erica was lying when she said I was the true talent in the family - and we haven't even seen what Autumn can do yet!
