Calling all Hip Cats-Lil Hipster

"Hey, hip cats-welcome to our pad!" is what greets you when you visit our featured seller for this Thursday evening: Say hello to Charity of Lil Hipsters on Etsy!

Living in Chico, California with her husband Joel and baby boy, Caleb, Charity was 13 years old when her Grandmother taught her how to sew and knit-"My mom would drop me off at her house once a week for “home ec” class. I had never spent any quality time with grandma before that, so these are some pretty cherished memories. We practiced knitting and pearling, sewed a dress for me and we were in the middle of a second sewing project when she passed away… but I continued learning new things on my own."

At this point in time, Charity is able to stay at home and be a full time mother to her son while her husband 'brings home the bacon.' As she explains, Etsy is something she can do at home that helps bring in a little extra money for her family.

If you visit her Etsy shop, you can find all sorts of goodies for your children from hand knit baby caps and gadget cozies to machine sewn burpee cloth sets and interesting, fun baby mobiles. Right now even though her shop isn't overly stocked, it's only a matter of time! She hopes to branch out: "Baby hats, quilts, and maybe toys. And stuff for the Bigger Hipster too! Funky gloves, bags, maybe some home décor…"

Besides her love for knitting and sewing, she also enjoys little things like painting and photography, but hasn't done anything with those two professionally yet. Although, I understand-Sometimes you just need to do things for yourself :-)

Advice from Charity: "Well, to the crafters on Etsy, I’d say the same thing I try to remind myself every day: focus on your craft and not so much on sales. If you do what you love, if you take pride in your product’s quality, if you are always experimenting and trying to improve your work, the sales will follow. Try not to check your shop too obsessively. It’s easy to get caught up in things “I gotta promo this, link that, upload pics of xyz.” There’s a place for all that, but if you take it too far, it will kill your creativity. I’d rather be in studio than in the office any day!
To all crafters - don’t settle for the same things. Put a spin on it. Be brave! That’s how think creativity really starts… and people are always excited by something they’ve never seen before."

Make sure to stop by Lil Hipsters and see what Charity has to offer!

Love and Energies.
Kayla
